Our Mission is to provide powerful customized support to:

  • Organizations who want to develop leaders from within; and
  • Leaders who want to leave behind a legacy of building healthy, effective organizations.

Who We Are

Gilburg Leadership Institute is a specialized consulting firm devoted to the development of leaders. GLI is an outgrowth of Growth Dynamics, Inc., which was originally founded in 1986 by Martha Spice, now Martha Johnson Gilburg. Alan Gilburg joined her in 1990. The company grew to incorporate Alan’s three children, Deborah, Amy, and Jonathan Gilburg as well as independent, highly skilled Associate Facilitators, and Joseph DiCenso. The company took on its new name in 2006, and continues to help a growing number of organizations and leaders step up to the leadership challenges of the 21 st century.

"We love this work. We teach what we know and practice. We believe personal accountability requires that we start with ourselves for the changes we seek in others. We believe that organizational change depends on the leader’s ability to make personal change."

Significance of our logo, the Chambered Nautilus

The chambered nautilus symbolizes the natural order of life, balance and sustainability. It has survived as a species for over 500 million years. It grows its shell in a mathematically precise and predictable spiral making maximum use of space and energy, no matter how large it grows.

First described by Pythagoras, nearly 3,000 years ago, the nautilus’ spiral form is designed according to the famous mathematical “golden proportion”. The metaphor of the golden proportion teaches us that structure combined with balance can enable us to indefinitely survive and thrive in demanding situations.

Stress and burnout are the products of unbalanced lives, often driven by unconscious fears that undermine our confidence. With Gilburg Leadership Institute, you will learn to define your strengths, accept your limits, and discover how to live at your best. You will find your “sweet zone” of life, your golden proportion!

Developing Leaders and Their Legacy

The Leaders who build successful, thriving organizations have the vision to navigate bold untapped courses to keep up with changing times. A leader’s credibility is vital: people follow leaders who are trustworthy, clear and authentic and who articulate purposes that matter while striving for goals that are worthy.

We invite leaders and their teams to “think and act as leaders”, to strive for worthy goals for their organizations and their communities, and to see their businesses flourish.

Leadership can be learned by individuals.
Creating effective organizational change depends on leaders who model the changes they ask of others. Leaders will find the inner resources to persevere by rigorously aligning their behaviors with their intentions. This work requires leaders to explore their own motives and beliefs, to ask for and receive feedback, to act courageously and to transcend individual comfort zones.

Our process is fundamental:

  • Know yourself; increase your emotional intelligence; lead from your strengths and manage your limitations; strive for a balanced life
  • Align your team and organization with its mission; ensure your leadership message is consistent and reflected in the organization’s structure, goals, priorities and policies; inspect what you expect
  • Plan for tomorrow; identify, train and mentor emerging leaders; leave a lasting legacy for generations to come

Leadership can be developed in organizations.
Increasingly, public and private sector organizations are awakening to the need to develop a cadre of future leaders. The most compelling challenges for 21st century leaders are to:

  • Lead for change: respond quickly to ever-changing environments and create new systems and solutions
  • Lead people: excite and retain the workforce, and promote partnerships across organizational lines
  • Lead for results: dare to take responsibility for outcomes that are out of their direct control
  • Lead for tomorrow: leave a leadership legacy by identifying, training and mentoring future leaders
