Theresa Bernstein's life spanned three centuries, and her life as a painter throughout the 20th century cemented her place not only as an important woman artist, but as an important artist in her own right. Her work as a painter, printmaker, author, and poet marks her as a force to be reckoned with in every area of her creative endeavors.

William Meyerowitz was a gifted draughtsman whose brilliantly executed etchings---both color and black & white---won him accolades throughout his career. His series of etchings depicting the Supreme Court of Oliver Wendell Holmes was a creative coup which clearly demonstrated Meyerowitz' mastery of the etching process. Additionally, his gift as a painter brought this passionate artist a devoted following throughout his life, and posthumously.

The Bernstein Meyerowitz Collection was founded by Keith Carlson, the devoted grand-nephew of Ms. Bernstein and Mr. Meyerowitz, and Mr. Carlson's wife, Mary Rives.

Mr. Carlson and Ms. Rives were lucky enough to work and live closely with Ms. Bernstein during the final 20 years of her life, both in her Gloucester, Massachusetts and New York City studios.
