You're invited to be part of a community that welcomes all to worship, fellowship, spiritual growth and service to others - the First Baptist Church of Greenfield.

MORE ABOUT OUR CHURCH

The church is much more than a building - the church is its people.

The First Baptist Church of Greenfield is a community of people that welcomes all to share in our mission as we seek to follow God's direction for our lives and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

We strive to be a friendly and welcoming church to all of God’s people - regardless of a person’s race, gender, age, class or sexual orientation. Since 1852, we have provided ministry to generations of people in Franklin County and the Pioneer Valley through worship, pastoral care, spiritual growth, nurturing fellowship and outreach to others.

Our church building is accessible for those with limited mobility. The ramp and entrance are located on the south side of the church, with direct access from the parking lot located on Pleasant Street (off of Federal Street). A chairlift provides access to the sanctuary.

We're affiliated with American Baptist Churches USA, American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts, and the Interfaith Council of Franklin County.

WORSHIP

We have worship services Sundays at 10 AM. Our worship service usually lasts an hour and features music, prayers, children's time, a time of sharing joys and concerns and preaching. We are a Christian faith community, meaning we worship God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, who taught his followers the great commandment - to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves.

During worship on the first Sunday of each month, we share in a meal called Communion, where we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. All Christians are invited to partake in this sacred event.

On the last Sunday of each month we have a coffee hour following worship. It’s proven to be a great time to get to know people better.

LOCATION

The First Baptist Church is located at 118 Federal Street in Greenfield. Greenfield is conveniently located at EXIT 26 on I-91.

FROM 1-91 NORTH & SOUTH (I-91): Take the Rotary that leads into Greenfield - which soon becomes MAIN STREET. Take MAIN STREET to the central downtown intersection (about a mile from the rotary) and make a left turn at the traffic light onto FEDERAL STREET (ROUTES 5 & 10 NORTH). From this direction, the church will be on the left. The red brick, Gothic-style building of First Baptist Church is located a few blocks north of downtown on the corner of Federal and Leonard Streets.

Parking is available across the street from the church at the Greenfield Elementary School or at the parking lot on Pleasant Street (off of Federal).

OUTREACH

One important reason the church exists is to help those in need. It’s one way we live out part of the great commandment shared by Jesus - to love our neighbor as ourselves. In this sense, all Christians are ministers. We are all called by God to help others.

In our outreach, we extend the presence of a caring God to others. In Franklin County, we provide outreach through Community Meals for the hungry, food and related items for The Center for Self Reliance, and support for Habitat for Humanity. Through our denomination, we give to local, national and international ministries. We also generously support such charities like the Heifer Project, Relay for Life, and the Crop Walk.

For many years we have also carried out our mission by providing space in our parish house (at 116 Federal Street) to the Pastoral Counseling Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Franklin County. We also provide space in our parish house and church social hall almost every day of the week for Alcoholic Anonymous groups.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

We provide opportunities for spiritual growth through informal bible studies, where we read and talk about a passage from the Bible and its meaning for us. As Baptists, we believe each person has the freedom to interpret the Bible for themselves. Classes are usually facilitated by our pastor, last for about an hour and are held at different times throughout the year. If interested, contact the church office by telephone or email for more information.

CHURCH NEWSLETTER Every month, we publish our newsletter, THE LINK, free to our members and friends. It highlights news and events related to First Baptist Church. If you’re interested in receiving THE LINK, please contact the church office by telephone or email.
