We welcome you to attend Unity in the Pioneer Valley and become part of our growing spiritual community. Services are 10:00am on Sunday mornings. Childcare is provided for infants and toddlers and Youth Ed classes meet during the Sunday service.
Unity is a Christian movement which was founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in the latter part of the nineteenth century. It differs from traditional Christianity in that it crosses all church lines and does not ask anyone to subscribe to a creed or to perform certain rites. Unity leaves people free to practice their religion at whatever level they have come to, for it feels that there is good in all religions and that people need different approaches to self-unfoldment. It endeavors to help people apply spiritual principles in their daily lives.
Unity has over 900 churches located throughout the world and is widely known for its publication Daily Word and for its prayer ministry, Silent Unity. The Unity School of Christianity is located in Unity Village, Missouri.
Unity in the Pioneer Valley's (UPV) Minister, Rev. Carol Kelshaw, was responsible for bringing Unity into western Massachusetts in February of 2003. Carol is a Licensed Unity Teacher and is currently enrolled in Unity's ministerial Field Licensing Program. She is a former psychiatric nurse practitioner and was the Spiritual Leader for the Unity of Springfield Study Group.
UPV's purpose is to be a supportive community that nurtures spiritual growth. Our mission is to love one another by seeing absolute good in ourselves, in others, and in life experiences. We practice Unity principles through Prayer, Education, and Service.
Unity's five principles are:
1. There is only One Presence and One Power active in the Universe and in my life - God/good, in everything and everywhere.
2. I am naturally good because God's Divinity is in me and in everyone.
3. God operates in the Universe according to The Law of Mind Action. I create my experiences through what I choose to think, what I feel, and what I truly believe. I can change my experience by changing my thoughts.
4. Through prayer and meditation, I align myself with God. Denials and affirmations are tools that I use to bring out the Good in my life.
5. Knowing and understanding the truth is not enough. We must live/practice the truth that we know.
A Course In Miracles study group, facilitated by Don Wheeler, is held most Sundays after service from noon to 1:00 p.m. UPV also hosts workshops and offers various study groups throughout the course of the year. Our space is available for rental; please call 413-774-5552 to find out more.
