CCRVI’s purposes are to engage in the following activities:

To initiate and administer programs exclusively for charitable, educational, scientific and literary purposes within the meaning of IRC Section 501(c)(3), and in furtherance of such purposes but not in limitation thereof:

A.  to educate the public regarding and/or to encourage:

        1.  the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual experience of living intimately and indigenously with nature in the Central Connecticut River Valley Bioregion;

        2.  nature awareness and the restoration and maintenance of a sustainable ecological balance in the Bioregion including, but not limited to, the encouragement and development of organic farming, a locally-based food supply, sustainable forestry, and the use of earth-friendly building construction materials and methods; and

        3.  traditional and “primitive” life skills including, but not limited to, skills such as hunting, fishing, tracking, living lightly on the earth, the use of edible and medicinal wild plants; etc.

        4.  high quality relationships between animals and humans.

B.  to promote the conservation and preservation of land in the Bioregion including, but not limited to, the ownership of conservation land and/or conservation/preservation easements;

C.  to promote the concept of bioregional thinking/perceiving in other bioregions;

D.  improve the quality of life for domestic and wild animals by (i) preventing animal abuse, neglect, and overpopulation, (ii) assisting stray, lost, unwanted, ill, and/or injured animals with shelter, care, treatment, prosthetic devices, home placement, etc., and (iii) promoting the preservation and expansion of wildlife habitat and corridors.

E.  to publish and distribute magazines, books, and other media for the above-stated purposes;

F.  to provide charitable services to animals and humans locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally where needs arise; and

G. to make grants or otherwise distribute funds to individuals, groups, or organizations, including organizations which are exempt from taxation pursuant to IRC Section 501(c)(3), as amended from time to time, in furtherance of the above-state purposes.
