CCRVI's Community Food Project initially encompassed several interrelated projects that build upon and supported each other as a whole system and were intended to serve as a pilot project and model for larger-scale implementation beyond our Village. Initially Community Food was to focus on three projects:
* the Shelburne Falls Food Survey and Plan,
* the Perennial Food Project, and
* the Multifunctional Species Research Project. Read the original Community Food proposal.
The first of these projects has morphed into the Shelburne Falls Food Security Project, the first phase of which was undertaken in the Winter of 2009 in collaboration with the Conway School of Landscape Design. Three Conway School students evaluated the capacity of the residents of the Village of Shelburne Falls, MA, to produce all of our own food. Read the Executive Summary. Read the full Report. We are hoping that we'll be able to work with the Conway School again to develop the next phase of the Project.
The second project in the original Community Food proposal, the Perennial Food Project, has stalled. If you are interested in bringing permaculture to the Village of Shelburne Falls, please contactus.
The Multifunctional Species Research Project may be taken forward by the Apios Institute, which promotes research and education regarding perennial food gardening and permaculture. CCRVI served as Apios' fiscal sponsor until the end of 2009.
