Michael Pill's law practice concentrates on land use (zoning, subdivision control, wetlands, rural water supply and sewage disposal); real estate conveyancing, and real estate litigation. His litigation work includes cases on title to land, easements, private restrictive covenants, public land use restrictions (e.g., conservation and agricultural preservation restrictions), private nuisance, trespass, adverse possession, boundary disputes, and status of roads as public ways.
A graduate of Grinnell College (B.A. 1968, American history) and the University of Iowa College of Law (1972), Michael received an M.A. degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa (1974) and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts (1982).
He has served as a member of the Massachusetts Conveyancers Association's Practice Standards Committee and the Massachusetts Association of Health Board's Legal Advisory Council. He has taught land use law to municipal officials at Greenfield Community College and has authored professional education materials on land use law, septic system regulation, preserving appellate issues in civil litigation, settling insurance claims, representing buyers and sellers of rural real estate, liability of real estate brokers, SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation), eminent domain, easements and land use restrictions.
