Caring in Community is a small group of health professionals committed to helping our neighbors. This builds stronger community, and in a time of rapid change and broken relationships we want to rebuild the community we've lost. Stand up, slow down, hold onto good old values while adapting to the change all around us.

* Insured, Uninsured and self-employed individuals

* Newborn and pediatric patients

* Adolescents and adults

* Geriatric and nursing-home residents

* Women with pregnancy or prenatal counseling needs

* Homebound individuals and those with social phobias

* Barter and donations of materials or services gladly accepted

* Always straight talk and honest answers because...

* We want to serve you first.

Services include...

* House calls

* Office hours

* Basic surgery and specialty care

* 24-hour coverage by an experienced group of physicians

* Service to anyone without regard to background or means

Principles...

* A slower, more balanced old-time pace to life and work

* Low-tech personal care at which country doctors excelled

* Wholistic and open-minded cutting-edge medicine

* Patient empowerment, mutual honesty and respect

* Limit profit to preserve ideals

Office policies...

* We do our honest best to help everyone, and we ask for your help...

* Please offer suggestions so we can improve our service.

* Consults with other specialists are freely offered after we have examined you.

* Urgent phone calls are returned as quickly as possible and non-urgent phone calls within 24 hours.

* For those patients using alternative healing, we apply Western medicine with good judgment and caution to great effect.

* We expect you to give back to your community in exchange for free care.

* Refills require a doctor's visit because medicines are timed to run out only when you are overdue for followup - non-urgent prescription refills by phone may require 3 working days.

Insurance information

We accept most insurances including MassHealth (West County and Greenfield residents only) though they and many bargain insurances almost never pay as they promise.

Directions

From Greenfield Take Route 2 West from the I-91 rotary about 4 miles. We are on your left after the Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters on your left, the first suite in the Arrowhead Shops at 1105 Mohawk Trail. It's a long yellow building with a long white porch.

From Shelburne Falls Take Route 2 East from Charlemont past Shelburne, about 6 miles. We are on your right before the Shelburne Coffee Roasters on Route 2, the last suite in the Arrowhead Shops at 1105 Mohawk Trail. It's a long yellow building with a long white porch.

Community Projects

Everyone has loves and joys in family, creative arts, and community. Our website shows some of our community projects that we wrap into the free and bartered medical care which is our main trade and strength. We support all of our democratic cooperative's team members' interests, whether they be physician, nurse, receptionist, or janitor (who is also usually the physician - everyone cross trains!)

We believe that money is like air - you may breathe to live, but there's a whole lot more to life than breathing (or money, for that matter). Money is also about as ephemeral as air, so don't hold onto it too tightly. It would be an effort in futility. You might even lose your soul trying. This is why Cottage Med, our biggest community project (a project that's now global), is free. We'd love to accept donations, of course, to keep it growing, but it has grown to be used worldwide without selling it to anyone yet.
