The Amandla Community Chorus, based in Greenfield, Massachusetts,
has been presenting programs, workshops, and concerts
throughout our region since 1988.
We sing songs of justice, freedom, and peace
in more than a dozen languages.
We also weave quotes and poems into our performances
to bring our audiences songs and ideas about
fairness, compassion, and human rights.
Amandla is a community chorus.
We sing to celebrate life and to reflect and articulate social concerns.
We work to provide inspiration in the struggles for justice and peace.
We choose songs and source material from around the world to encourage diversity.
Anti-racism work has been a focus, but the group seeks to end oppression of all kinds.
Our goal is to enlighten as well as entertain.
In concert, we invite audience participation in order to
break down the boundaries between "performers" and "spectators."
Amandla performs and conducts workshops at:
public events, prisons, places of worship, day care centers, nursing homes,
schools, and concert stages of all kinds, including Lincoln Center
Amandla is available for:
* Just about any venue or occasion that calls for 12-40 singers,
teaching and performing relevant music from many lands
* Daytime, in-school concerts
* Evening concerts
* Combination packages for schools,
such as participatory workshop
followed by a concert in which children perform songs with Amandla
* Presentations in collaboration with other artists

Funding:
Amandla has a sliding scale fee structure.
The price for programs is negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
While we need to earn a certain amount to stay afloat,
we try to accommodate schools and organizations,
and negotiate so that these amazing songs
may be brought to people of all ages.
Our diverse repertoire includes songs from all over the world.
We sing over 100 songs, including original compositions and arrangements
by Eveline MacDougall.
Over the years, we have sung in Xhosa, Japanese, Swedish, Arabic, Croatian,
Vietnamese, Hebrew, Spanish, Sotho, Zulu, and other languages as well as English.
Our genres include traditional folksongs, hymns, spirituals,
lullabies, rounds, and much more.
While we sing most of our material a cappella,
we also incorporate drums and other instruments. Repertoire
Amandla is celebrating its 20th season in 2008!
